AWS Truepower joins Duke Energy and partners for Carolinas offshore wind study

AWS Truepower has been chosen as one of the partners to be involved in the Carolinas Offshore Wind Integration Case Study (COWICS), funded by the US Department of Interior. The company's partners on this project are Duke Energy, ABB and the
National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), as well as the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill (UNC). The purpose of
the study is to assess the benefits and challenges associated with the development of offshore wind capacity near the coasts of North and South Carolina. The US DoI will regard the results of this study as critical for making policy and commercial descisions having to do with offshore wind development.

OCI Solar and CPS Energy in partnership for 400 MW of solar power in Texas

OCI Solar Power (based in South Korea) and CPS Energy have partnered for a possible 400 MW of solar power capacity in Texas. The future project could become one of the largest solar projects in the US. The project will be comprised of several solar power plants, which combined will be able to produce enough electrical energy annually to supply some 90,000 average homes.

Sempra and BP expand strategic partnership in wind energy

Sempra US Gas & Power and BP Wind Energy are expanding their strategic partnership in wind energy by agreeing to jointly develop the Mehoopany wind farm in Pennsylvania and the Flat Ridge 2 wind farm in Kansas. Both projects represent a combined investment of about USD 1 billion, with a total of 560 MW of installed capacity.

ABB improving the power grid in Texas

Suzlon begins 2012 with 120 MW order from USA

LaGeo restarting geothermal exploration in El Salvador

LaGeo, a Salvadoran geothermal company, has decided to start geothermal exploration in El Salvador in order to find new geothermal wells for power generation. After a pause of several years, LaGeo has allocated USD 41 million for this purpose in 2012. The investment plan includes exploration, recovery and maintenance of the wells. The main focus areas of the exploration are the fields of Chinameca and St. Vincent.

BP invests in Cool Planet BioFuels

Cool Planet BioFuels announced that BP Technology Ventures has made an investment in the biofuels startup, as part of the company's C Round of investments. BP has this way joined General Electric, Google Ventures, ConocoPhillips, NRG and North Bridge Venture Partners as investors. GE, NRG and ConocoPhillips have made a joint venture investment company in early 2011, with a plan to invest in 30 venture and growth stage companies, including Cool Planet BioFuels.
