Gamesa to supply Santa Maria JV with 50 MW of turbines

Gamesa and Santa Maria (joint venture between two Grupo Ortiz companies) have signed an agreement under which Gamesa is to deliver, install and commission 25 G97-2.0 MW units at the Santa Maria de Nieva wind farm in Almeria, Spain.

Siemens supplying Indian market with steam turbines for solar thermal applications

Siemens has received an order for four steam turbines for use at solar thermal power plants in the Indian state of Rajasthan. The projects will use parabolic trough solar thermal technology to convert sunlight into heat to produce high pressure steam. A total of four power plants is being developed, as part of India's Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM), which calls for the development of 20 GW of solar capacity in Indian by 2022.

ABB and partners find way to reuse old Nissan LEAF batteries

ABB, 4R Energy, Nissan NA and the Sumitomo Corporation of America have found a way to extend the life of old Nissan LEAF batteries by using them for energy storage in future local community smart grids. The partners are evaluating and testing ways of reusing the Li-ion batteries in residential and commercial energy storage applications.

National Solar Power building 100 MW solar park in Florida

National Solar Power has signed an agreement with Liberty County, Florida, for the development of a 100 MW solar project on a property in Liberty County. The project will be adjacent to the company's solar project in Gadsden County. Once fully developed and built, the project will represent a USD 350 million investment. This will be National Solar's third solar project in Florida.

Vestas reaffirms presence in Finland with 30 MW order

Vestas received an order for 30 MW of wind turbines from TuuliWatti Oy, a Finnish wind energy developer. This is the third order from this customer within the past 12 months. This time, Vestas is to deliver 10 units, which are to be installed at the Tervola wind farm.

EDF EN orders 50 MW of wind turbines from REpower

EDF Energies Nouvelles has ordered 25 MM92 2 MW units from REpower. The wind turbines will be delivered to enXco, EDF EN's subsidiary in the US. The units are to be installed at the Shiloh IV wind farm in California, which is soon to reach 102.5 MW of installed capacity.

Iberdrola begins building a 22 MW wind farm in Spain

Iberdrola Renovables has begun construction of the Sierra de las Cabras wind farm, near Jumilla, Spain. The wind farm is to have 22 MW of installed capacity, featuring 11 Gamesa G97 2 MW units.

UK's first marine energy park to be in the South West region

The UK Department of Energy and Climate Change recently announced it has named the South West as the region to host the country's first Marine Energy Park. The South West Marine Energy Park will cover an area from Bristol to Cornwall, and will reach further out to the Isles of Scilly. The initiative will bring together various entities including the national and local government, Local Enterprise Partnerships, University of Plymouth and University of Exeter, but also the industry including the Wave Hub (South West RDA).

Alstom and SSE Renewables in JV for large wave farm in Scotland

Alstom and Scottish and Southern Energy Renewables have entered into an agreement to form a joint venture to develop what's touted as the world's largest wave energy farm, with up to 200 MW of installed capacity. The project is to be developed off the coast of Orkney, Scotland, in the Pentland Firth and Orkney Waters Strategic Area, governed by The Crown Estate.

Solar Frontier supplying enXco with modules for 150 MWp project

Solar Frontier will supply enXco with solar modules for a solar energy project with up to 150 MWp of installed capacity. The Catalina Solar Project project will use Solar Frontier's CIS solar modules. Once fully operational, this will be the largest solar installation in the world to use CIS solar modules.
