Enel Green Power starts up 30 MW wind farm in Romania

Enel Green Power (EGP) announced the company has reached the start up milestone at its Salbatica I wind farm in Romania. The facility entered into operation, with 30 MW of installed capacity. The wind farm features 15 Gamesa G90 wind turbines each with 2 MW of capacity. The estimated annual production of electrical energy at Salbatica I should be enough to supply the annual needs of about 29,000 average households.

Cavico completes Dong Nai 4 hydropower plant tunnel

Cavico, large infrastructure project company from Vietnam, annoucned the completion of the tunnel at the Dong Nai 4 hydropower project, being built in the Bao Lam district of Lam Dong Province. The tunnel is 2.9 miles long (4.6 km) and has 30.2 feet in diameter (~9 m). The tunnel will supply the twin unit hydropower plant with water to power the hydraulic turbines. The power plant will have a total of 340 MW of intalled power generating capacity.

Suzlon and Affinity Wind in JV for wind energy projects in US

Suzlon and Affinity Wind (US based) have signed an agreement to jointly develop wind energy projects in the US. The first of the joint projects will be Affinity Wind's 150 MW wind farm in Illinois. The new joint venture company will be called Surity Wind LLC, and will be involved in this and other wind energy developments in the future. Suzlon will be supplying wind turbines for this first project, as well as other projects the companies may work on together in the future.

Greater Gabbard and Walney offshore wind farms start exporting electricity

Offshore wind farms Greater Gabbard and Walney have begun exporting electricity to the power grid. Neither wind farms has been completed, but the first few installed turbines have been energized and have begun to generate electricity.

Enel Green Power building 90 MW wind farm in Sardinia

Enel Green Power has received permission from the Region of Sardinia to build a 90 MW wind farm in Portoscuso, Sicily. The wind farm will feature 39 Siemens 2.3 MW wind turbines. Once completed the wind farm will generate about 185 GWh of electrical energy annually, or enough to supply about 70,000 average households with clean energy.

Cuba getting 30 MW biomass power plant

Havana Energy (UK) and Zerus SA (Cuba) have signed a joint venture agreement to develop a pilot 30 MW biomass power plant at Ciro Redondo Sugar Mill, located about 400 km of Havana. Additionally, four other plants are also planned in the future. The power plans will be developed adjacent to sugar mills, which process sugar cane. Biomass residue from the process, sugarcane bagasse, will be used as fuel in the power plants.

First commercial scale tidal current power plant to be installed in Gujarat, India

Atlantis Resources Corporation has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government of Gujarat for the development of commercial scale tidal current power capacity in the Gulf of Kutch. The proposed project will have 50 MW of installed capacity. The MoU was signed during the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2011, and calls for a total of 250 MW of tidal power capacity.

IBC Solar announced another 13.8 MW of connected solar power capacity in Germany

IBC Solar announced the company recently connected a 13.8 MW solar park in Breitenguessbach, Germany. The park was successfully connected to the power grid at the very end of 2010. The installed capacity can produce enough clean electricity to supply about 4450 average households annually.

nkt cables in EUR 80 million deal for subsea cables for offshore wind farm

nkt cables has entered into a EUR 80 million contract with Dutch-German transmission operator TenneT, for a high voltage submarine cable which will connect the future offshore wind farm Riffgat, located about 20 km northwest of the island of Borkum, to the mainland grid. The wind farm is being developed by Enova.

Solar modules for Rovigo in Italy were supplied by Canadian Solar

We covered recently about SunEdison having completed and interconnected the largest solar park complex in Europe, the 70 MW Rovigo solar park complex, located in northeast Italy. What remained unknown was the supplier of the solar modules used for the project. Canadian Solar has graced us with an announcement that this company was the supplier of solar modules for the project.
