Robert Bosch pulling out of solar – selling Aleo stake

Robert Bosch Gmbh, the German supplier of technology and services, part of the Bosch Group, has decided to pull out of the crystalline solar business due to unattainable competitiveness in the solar market. As a consequence, the company will divest its 90% stake in the solar equipment manufacturer Aleo Solar.

Gamesa wins S&M deal from Iberdrola for 80 units in Spain and Portugal

Iberdrola has awarded a service and maintenance deal to Gamesa for a total of eighty wind turbines currently installed on the Iberian Peninsula. Additionally, Gamesa will also provide operation and maintenance services for wind turbines installed in Hungary, also operated by Iberdrola.

Alstom's 1 MW tidal device produces first power

Alstom announced the company's 1 MW tidal device has produced power in real conditions for the first time. It was installed at Orkney, at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC). Alstom already successfully tested the 500 kW version of the device earlier. The final aim is to test an array deployment of the devices, which will show the technology's full potential for commercial scale marine energy to electrical energy conversion.

Siemens launches new 4 MW offshore unit

Siemens officially launched its new 4 MW offshore wind turbine at the EWEA conference in Vienna. The new SWT 4.0-130 wind turbine features a 130 meter rotor, and 4 MW of capacity. It was developed and built as an improvement of the 3.6 MW offshore unit, the company's most widely used offshore turbine on the global market.

GE unveils 2.5-120 – the brilliant wind turbine

GE announced the new 2.5-120 wind turbine, which combines wind energy conversion with energy storage and advanced controls and forecasting algorithms. The "first brilliant wind turbine" brings an increase of 25% in efficiency and 15% increase in electrical energy production compared to other models in this family of wind turbines.

Siemens installs two 6 MW offshore units at Gunfleet Sands 3

Siemens announced the successful installation of two SWT-6.0 offshore wind turbines at Gunfleet Sands 3 offshore wind farm off the British coast. The installation was completed in under 24 hours for each unit, using the A2SEA wind turbine installation vessel – the Sea Installer.

Crown Estate investing in tidal and wave projects

Hanwha Chemical now owns Q-Cells

Hanwha Chemical Corporation is now officially the new owner of Q-Cells SE, as the company has formally been transferred. Q-Cells was involved in insolvency proceedings, but has been able to retain 80% of the workforce despite this process. The PV manufacturer has now become part of one of the largest corporations in South Korea.

Alterra Power and EDC to develop geothermal assets in Peru and Chile

Alterra Power and Energy Development corporation (Philippines) have entered into an agreement to jointly develop geothermal assets in Peru and Chile. The developments will include the Mariposa geothermal project in Chile and five more geothermal concessions in Peru, all owned by Alterra Power.
