Alstom and RusHydro begin construction of new hydropower equipment plant in Bashkortostan

Alstom and RusHydro have begun construction of the new manufacturing plant in Bashkortostan. The joint venture project, with a total investment of about EUR 125 million, is 51% owned by RusHydro, and 49% owned by Alstom, under the name JSC AlstomRusHydroEnergy.

First trial run for GE 4.1 MW offshore unit proves successful

GE's offshore 4.1 MW wind turbine has had its first trial run in Gothenburg Harbor, Sweden. The trial, which lasted 200 hours, resulted in 99.05% availability, with wind speeds varying from zero to rated wind speeds. The capacity factor achieved was 35.3 percent.

DONG Energy testing next-gen wind turbine in UK

DONG Energy announced plans to test the 6 MW Siemens next generation offshore wind turbine at the company's Gunfleet Sands offshore site near the coast of South East England. This is the first time the new Siemens turbines will be deployed and tested in offshore conditions.

GE to supply wind turbines for nine Ontario projects

GE is going to be the supplier of wind turbines for nine wind energy projcets in Ontario, totalling in 650 MW of capacity. All the projects are to be fully built by 2015, when GE wind turbines will account for the overall total of 1200 MW of wind capacity on the Ontario grid.

Iberdrola EOLE-RES consortium awarded Saint-Brieuc offshore wind contract in French tender

The French government has awarded the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind development concession to the Iberdrola EOLE-RES lead wind development consortium of companies. This was one of the most competitive concessions, with proposals featuring three different technologies for harnessing wind energy. As the supplier of wind turbines to the consortium, Areva will deliver 100 5 MW offshore units for this offshore wind farm.

Suzlon and CGN Wind Energy co-developing 800 MW of wind capacity

Suzlon and Chinese wind company CGN Wind Energy have entered into an agreement to jointly develop 800 MW of wind capacity at various locations around the world. The projects will be both domestic and foreign, including countries like Brazil, South Africa, India and China. Notably, these are all growing wind energy markets, with plenty of undeveloped wind energy potential, both onshore and offshore.

Centrica and DONG Energy in JV for Round 3 Irish Sea zone

Centrica and DONG Energy have formed a joint venture for pursuing joint development of offshore wind capacity in the Irish Sea wind development zone, part of the Round 3 of offshore wind development projects awarded by the Crown Estate. This zone has potential for about 4.2 GW of new capacity.

Alstom inaugurates 6 MW Haliade wind turbine at Saint-Nazaire

As was announced in late 2011, Alstom has deployed the first 6MW Haliade 150 unit at Saint-Nazaire, in the Loire-Atlantique region of France. The 6 MW offshore wind turbine, one of the largest on the market, has been installed on the shore, and will serve as a test unit, as the company prepares to enter large scale production of this wind turbine, especially developed for the offshore wind developments which are to take place in France.

DuPont and Yingli Green Energy in USD 100 million deal

DuPont and Yingli Green Energy (Yingli Solar) have ented into a USD 100 million strategic agreement for PV materials, which will help speed up the adoption of solar energy in the global energy market. Under the agreement, DuPont will supply Yingli with critical, high-quality materials, as well as collaborate with the company on further technological advancements.
