Siemens awarded EUR 1 billion contract for subsea link between Scotland and England/Wales

Iberdrola and National Grid (transmission system operator in Great Britain) have awarded the EUR 1 billion contract for building the first ever subsea transmission link between Scotland and England to Siemens. The new subsea link will increase the available transmission capacity by about 2 GW, and create conditions for the development of more renewable energy projects in Scotland.

ABB and partners find way to reuse old Nissan LEAF batteries

ABB, 4R Energy, Nissan NA and the Sumitomo Corporation of America have found a way to extend the life of old Nissan LEAF batteries by using them for energy storage in future local community smart grids. The partners are evaluating and testing ways of reusing the Li-ion batteries in residential and commercial energy storage applications.

IBM joins EcoGrid EU project to develop a smart grid which includes more renewable energy

IBM has joined the collaborative consortium of participants in the EcoGrid EU project, which is to demonstrate the capabilities of a smart energy grid which will connect smart devices with renewable energy sources, altogether based on real-time pricing and power availability.

IBM developing South Korea's renewable energy management system

IBM announced the company is going to collaborate with POSCO ICT on developing the first South Korean renewable energy management system, to be used together with a smart grid. The new management solution will be installed as a showcase on Jeju Island, at the Smart Grid Demonstration Complex.
