German private investment funds, Terra Nex and Middle East Best Select (MEBS) are planning to invest USD 2 billion in Oman for the development of 400 MW of solar power capacity. Additionally, this investment will also cover manufacturing facilities for solar panels, which will produce solar panels for both domestic needs and for exporting to other markets.
OCI Solar Power (based in South Korea) and CPS Energy have partnered for a possible 400 MW of solar power capacity in Texas. The future project could become one of the largest solar projects in the US. The project will be comprised of several solar power plants, which combined will be able to produce enough electrical energy annually to supply some 90,000 average homes.
The Supreme Council of Energy for Dubai has launched the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the first utility scale solar project of its kind in UAE, and the region. The project is to be operated and managed by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), and is to eventually reach 1000 MW of installed capacity.
JA Solar has entered into a supply agreement for 19 MW of PV modules for the Allstedt I solar park in Halle, Germany. The solar park is being developed by Solarhybrid, a German renewable energy developer.
Sempra Generation has installed 42 MW of solar panels at the Mesquite Solar 1 project. These solar panels are now generating electricity, which is delivered to the power grid.
Tata Power has entered into a shares purchase agreement with BP Alternative Holdings for the acquisition of BP's 51% of shares in the Tata BP Solar joint venture. This effectively puts Tata Power as the sole owner of Tata BP Solar.
3SUN, a joint venture between Enel Green Power, Sharp Electronics and STMicroelectronics, has begun production at the new PV panel facility in Catania, Italy. The new production plant for PV panels has 160 MW of annual production capacity, becoming the largest such production facility in Italy.
SunPower has entered into a definitive agreement with Total for the acquisition of Tenesol, a wholly owned subsidiary of Total. SunPower is paying USD 164.5 million in cash for this acquisition, while at the same time Total will purchase 18.6 million shares of SunPower common stock. Once Tenesol is in ownership of SunPower, Total will own about 66% of SunPower's common shares.
REC has been awarded the supply contract for a total of 60 MW of solar modules by GP Joule. The supplied modules are going to be installed at solar power plants in France and Germany.
Canadian Solar is going to sell a total of 86 MW of solar projects to TransCanada for about CAD 470 million. The sales agreement encompasses nine fully operational solar utility scale projects across Ontario.
