
Acciona has opened the company's first wind equipment manufacturing facility in the state of Bahia, Brazil. The plant has the capacity to produce 135 hubs annually (405 MW), for the AW-3000 wind turbine, the company's biggest unit.

Eco Wave Power has joined efforts with Otepi Renewables (subsidiary of OTEPI Group) and Engineenuity to implement the a wave energy project in Panama, also the first of its kind in Latin America. The project will feature and promote Evo Wave Power's technology in Panama and possibly attract more customers who'd like to invest in power plants of this kind.

Alstom and Renova Energia (Brazil) have signed a preliminary agreement for the supply of a total of 440 onshore wind turbines for deployment at wind farms in Brazil. The total amount involved exceeds EUR 1 billion, while the amount of new wind capacity that could be supplied will be no less than 1.2 GW.

Alterra Power and Energy Development corporation (Philippines) have entered into an agreement to jointly develop geothermal assets in Peru and Chile. The developments will include the Mariposa geothermal project in Chile and five more geothermal concessions in Peru, all owned by Alterra Power.

Alstom recently signed a contract to supply three Kaplan hydroturbines for the Baixo Iguaçu hydropower plant in Brazil, totalling in 350 MW of power generating capacity. The customer is Neoenergia.

Vestas has received several orders recently, totalling in 218 MW of capacity. The orders are from customers developing wind projects in the UK, France and Peru.

LM Wind Power announced plans to build a new blade manufacturing facility in Brazil, in partnership with Eólice. The new facility will deliver blades for wind turbines to be installed at wind farms in Brazil, as well as projects throughout South America.

Panama has decided to invite bidders to participate in the tender for a concession for the Chan II hydropower project. The concession was initially awarded to AES, but was cancelled in mid-2011, after the US company tried to modify the original route and coverage of the hydro works at the power plant site. The project was also challenged in 2007 by indigenous groups, which resulted in the suspension of construction activities in mid-2009.
SkySolar, the Chinese solar development company, will most likely be developing a total of 300 MW Of new solar capacity in Chile, with an estimated total investment of about USD 900 million. This announcement was made as part of a larger strategic cooperation agreement between China and Chile, during the visit of the Chinese premier to South America and Chile in mid-June.

Siemens has received an order for a total of 115 MW of wind turbines for the El Arrayan wind project in Chile. The project is being developed by Pattern Energy and AEI as a joint venture.
