Ormat's San Pablo II granted – company submits bids for more exploration concessions in Chile

Ormat Technologies announced the company's San Pablo II geothermal exploration concession in Chile has been granted. The site is located on top of 26,000 acres of land north of the San Pablo/San Pedro twin-volcanic complex. The concession is near existing roads and copper mines, which could be offtakers of generated power at the geothermal site. Following this development, the company will launch testing and feasibility assessments for commercial geothermal power development. If this proves to be positive, Ormat will apply for an exploitation concession.

GE to deliver 400 MW of turbines for wind farms in Brazil

GE received orders for an additional 400 MW of wind turbines for wind farms in Brazil, which are to be developed as part of the 2010 Alternative Energy Auctions. The orders, estimated fro commitments made by wind farm developers involved in the auctioned projects in Brazil, are for a total of 258 GE 1.5 and 1.6 MW units.

Gamesa building nacelle factory in Brazil

Gamesa announced plans to build a nacelle manufacturing facility in the state of Bahia, Brazil. The factory will be located in Camaraçi, in the north-eastern part of the state. It will produce nacelles equivalent to 300 MW of wind turbines, and employ about 100 people.

Gamesa in contract for 42 MW in Brazil

Gamesa has entered into a contract with Inveravante corporation for supplying 42 MW of wind turbines, for the Dunas de Paracuru wind farm in the Ceará state, Brazil. The order will be comprised of G87-2.0 MW units, to be delivered in the second half of 2011.

Vestas to deliver 77 MW of turbines to Argentina

Vestas received an order for 77 MW, or 43 V90-1.8 MW wind turbines, from Emgasud SA, an Argentinean natural gas company. The wind turbines are to be installed at the Rawson I and II wind farms, located near Rawson in the Chubut Province, Argentina.

Mustang Geothermal acquires Andean Geothermic Energy

Mustang Geothermal announced the company has completed the purchase of Andean Geothermic Energy, a Peruvian geothermal energy developer controlling four geothermal exploration applications having 3600 hectares (or 8896 acres) of land area in the provinces of Puno and Arequipa, in Peru.

Vestas receives orders totalling 172 MW from UK, US and Brazil

Vestas received three orders for a total of 172 MW of wind turbines from customers in the UK, the US and Brazil.

The UK order comes from RES for 28 MW or 14 V80-2.0 MW units to be installed at the Kelburn wind farm, in North Ayeshire, Scotland. The units are to be delivered and installed in mid-2011. Vestas will provide S&M for ten years, as well as its remote monitoring system.

Alstom completes first unit at Foz do Chapecó hydropower plant

Preparation for insertion of a Francis turbine at Foz do Chapecó hydropower plant.

Alstom recently announced the company has successfully completed the first power generating unit at the Foz do Chapecó hydropower plant in Brazil, on the Uruguay River. The unit has 214 MW of capacity, and is one of four units to be assembled at the power plant. Alstom's contract includes the delivery and installation of all the major components at the power plant, including hydroturbines, generators, hydromechanical equipment, and other related parts.

SN Power investing USD 400 million in Peru hydropower project

SN Power recently announced a USD 400 million investment in a hydropower project in Peru. The Cheves hydropower project will have 168 MW of installed capacity, and should be finalized by the end of 2013. The location offers 600 meters of net head, with a design flow rate of 33 cubic meters per second. The project will require 14 km of tunnels.

The project is being developed under UN's Clean Development Mechanism. The Cheves project will replace some of the thermal power facilities in the country. One of the critical factors for moving forward with this project was the CDM approval.
