DONG Energy acquires stake in SMart Wind Hornsea Zone projects

DONG Energy has acquired a 33.3% stake in the first two offshore wind projects to be built as part of the Hornsea wind development zone (UK offshore Round 3), from SMart Wind (equal JV between Mainstream Renewable Power and Siemens Project Ventures). The two projects have the potential for the development of 1 GW of new offshore wind capacity.

E.ON unveils plans for Humber Gateway offshore wind farm

E.ON has announced details about the Humber Gateway offshore wind farm which the company is developing off the coast of East Yorkshire. The future offshore wind farm will feature an array of 73 wind turbines, totalling in 219 MW of installed capacity. This is enough to provide electrical energy for about 170,000 average homes annually, according to the company.

Siemens supplying wind turbines for 288 MW Amrumbank West offshore wind farm

Siemens has been awarded the contract to deliver, install and commission the wind turbines for the 288 MW Amrumbank West offshore wind farm, being developed by E.ON in the North Sea. Siemens will be installing its 3.6 MW offshore units, 80 of them in total.

Nordex awarded wind turbine contracts in Norway and Italy

Nordex has been awarded wind turbine supply contracts in Norway and Italy in totalling 77.5 MW of capacity. The orders require the delivery of the N90/2500 and the N100/2500 units.

Vestas receives order for 96 MW from Sweden

Vestas has received an order for 32 V112-3.0 MW wind turbines (96 MW in total), from Swedish wind energy developer Stena Renewable AB. The units will be installed in the Vetlanda Municipality, starting in August 2012.

Siemens and Shanghai Electric sign strategic alliance for China

Siemens and Shanghai Electric have signed a strategic alliance agreement, for two new joint ventures, for the Chinese wind energy market, aiming to better serve the needs of one of the largest and fastest growing wind energy markets in the world. Each of the new JV's will be in 49% ownership of Siemens, while the remaining 51% will be owned by Shanghai Electric.

RSA announces preferred bidders for RE development

Republic of South Africa's Department of Energy has announced a list of preferred bidders for renewable energy development in this country. The list covers developers involved in wind and solar CSP and solar PV development. A total of 1.415 GW of the planned 3.725 GW of RE capacity has been allocated through this tender.

Vestas shipping 168 MW of turbines to Australia

Vestas has received an order for 56 V90-3.0 MW wind turbines (168 MW in total), from Hydro Tasmania, the largest power generator in Australia. The units are to be installed at the Musselroe wind farm, being developed in Tasmania.

Mitsubishi enters undersea transmission sector with Walney 1 offshore project

Mitsubishi has acquired a 50% share in the Walney 1 offshore transmission assets from Macquarie Capital Group. This represents the first time a Japanese company is going to be involved in an offshore underwater transmission project outside of Japan.
