Fidelis Energy to build 100 MW solar plant in Spain

Fidelis Energy signed a definitive long-term agreement with ASD Lusiona Solar to develop a 100 MW solar power plant on about 1500 acres of land. Fidelis is to provide the design, construction and operation services for the project.

Duke Energy completes Kit Carson wind farm in Colorado

Duke Energy announced the company has completed the Kit Carson Windpower Project in Colorado, US. The wind farm, with 51 MW of installed capacity, is now connected to the grid, and exporting clean power. All power generated by the 34 GW 1.5 MW units is being sold to the Tri-State Generation and Transmission's member electric cooperatives under a 20-year PPA.

Enel Green Power acquires 10 MW of wind capacity in France from Gamesa

Enel Green Power has finalized the acquisition of 10 MW of operational wind capacity in France from Gamesa. La Bouleste (Flavin la Bouleste) wind farm is located in Aveyron, the Midi-Pyrenees Area of France. Gamesa developed the wind farm using its G87 wind turbines each with 2 MW of capacity.

Gamesa in contract for 42 MW in Brazil

Gamesa has entered into a contract with Inveravante corporation for supplying 42 MW of wind turbines, for the Dunas de Paracuru wind farm in the Ceará state, Brazil. The order will be comprised of G87-2.0 MW units, to be delivered in the second half of 2011.

Germany loans EUR 60 million to Macedonia for renewable energy sector

Wind turbine in Cancun reminds COP16 participants of why they are there

A wind turbine has been erected and officially inaugurated two days ago in Cancun, Mexico, by the Mexican President Felipe Calderón. The unit, generating 1.5 MW of clean power for the city's residents, has been erected on the initiative of the Mexican Government. Cancun is hosting the UN Climate Change Conference (COP16), gathering world leaders to discuss a global climate deal that would result in more carbon emission reductions.

LM Wind Power to supply REpower with blades for Thornton Bank II and III

LM Wind Power is going to supply the blades for the 6M wind turbines to be used at the Phase II and III projects at the Thornton Bank offshore wind farm in Belgian waters. As announced recently, REpower will be the supplier of wind turbines for the Thornton Bank extensions. The company is to deliver 48 6M units for both phases of the project. LM Wind Power is to deliver 144 LM 61.5P2 blades, having 61.5 meters in length, from its facility in Lunderskov, Denmark.

Enel Green Power starts up Chiusdano geothermal facility in Italy

Enel Green Power announced the start of power generation at another geothermal energy facility in the province of Siena. The Chiusdano geothermal power plant adds another 20 MW of geothermal potential to the company's portfolio. It will be able to generate clean power for about 55,000 average households. The previously started Radicondoli 2 geothermal power plant, in early November, also has 20 MW of installed capacity.

LIMPET wave energy plant celebrates ten years of operation

Wave energy conversion has seen quite a big boost in the past couple of years, along with media coverage, mostly associated with the EMEC center in Orkney, Scotland, and all the talk about marine energy potential in the UK. There is a wave energy conversion power plant that has been operating in Scotland for ten years now, called LIMPET, built by Voith Hydro using its Wavegen technology. It is touted to be the first ever grid connected commercial scale wave energy power plant in the world. It is located on the Scottish island of Islay.

Major deals signed for Thornton Bank offshore wind farm with ABB and REpower

Six REpower 5M units installed at Phase 1 of Thronton Bank wind farm.

Major deals have been announced for the Thronton Bank offshore wind farm in Belgian waters. The C-Power consortium, which includes RWE Innogy, has entered into deals for subsea grid power cable connections with ABB, and the supply of wind turbines with REpower. The wind farm will be extended with an additional 295 MW of capacity, which is to be built in two turns, in 2012 and in 2013.
