Nordex installing 24 turbines on wind farms in Turkey

Nordex has received orders totalling in 24 N90/2500 wind turbines, to be installed at two wind farms in Turkey. The first order is for 18 units, which will be installed at the Akres wind farm, developed by Karesi Enerji. The second order is for 6 units, which are to be installed at the existing Yundtag wind farm, developed by Dost Enerji, as an extension of capacity.

Ocean renewable energy advancement research in US gets USD 5 million funding

The US Department of Energy (DoE), Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE), and the Department of Commerce's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) are awarding funding for eight joint research projects, supporting responsible siting and permitting of offshore wind energy facilities and ocean energy (wave, tidal, current, thermal gradient). The research will deal with information gaps that exist regarding environmental effects of renewable energy development on the ocean environment.

REpower to present new MM wind turbine series

REpower announced the company is about to unveil its latest in the line of wind turbine product line, the MM100 1.8 MW wind turbine, aimed especially at the North American wind energy market. The turbine is to be unveiled at the CanWEA wind energy trade fair to be held in Canada for the first time.

Pattern Energy's Hatchet Ridge wind farm now operational

Pattern Energy announced its 101.2 MW Hatchet Ridge wind farm in California reached full operation. The wind farm features Siemens SWT-2.3-93 wind turbines, and the supportive infrastructure was built by RES America Construction. All power generated at the wind farm is exported and sold to Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) under a 15-year PPA.

aleo solar increasing production capacity to 390 MW annually

aleo solar announced plans to increase its annual production capacity from 250 MW to 390 MW, by the end of 2011. The company is investing about EUR 20 million into this expansion project, creating an additional 100 jobs.

aleo solar will expand production capacity at two of the company's solar module production facilities. The 180 MW annual capacity facility in Prenzlau, Germany will be uprated to 280 MW annually, while the Gaomi facility in China will output 90 MW annually. aleo solar's Santa Maria de Palautordera facility will remain at 20 MW annually for now.

Vestas cutting workforce in Denmark and Sweden by 3000 employees

Vestas announced plans to cut its workforce in four units in Denmark, and one in Sweden, totalling in 3000 people whose employment will be terminated. Additionally, the company will be adjusting a number of staff and support functions worldwide.

Solar Millenium receives final permit for Blythe solar power plants

US Secretary of Interior Ken Salazar authorized the Record of Decision (RoD) thereby granting the final permit needed by Solar Millenium (subsidiary of Solar Trust) to start the development of the Blythe Solar Power Project, comprised of four solar parks, totalling 1000 MW of capacity. The power plants will use solar thermal technology for converting sunlight into electricity using parabolic troughs. The Blythe project received approval from the California Energy Commission back in September.

UK DECC unleashes GBP 60 million in funding for UK offshore manufacturing port sites

Roger Bright and Chris Huhne sign Letter of Intent

The UK Department of Energy and Climate Change announced yesterday the government has approved GBP 60 million in funding for establishing world class offshore wind manufacturing at port sites. This announcement comes soon after DECC and the Crown Estate signed a letter of intent recently to support the development of port wind manufacturing infrastructure.

Q-Cells sells 40 MWp of capacity to Good Energies and NIBC Infrastructure Partners

Q-Cells' projects Finsterwalde II and Finsterwalde III (in Germany) will be sold to Good Energies and NIBC Infrastructure Partners, under a sale agreement reached between the companies. The two projects, together with the adjacent Finsterwalde I solar park, make up the largest operational solar power plant in the world, with 81 MWp of capacity.
