EnviroMission's solar tower projects up for approval by SCPPA

EnviroMission (Australia) submitted proposals for two solar tower energy projects in Arizona to the Southern California Public Power Authority (SCPPA) back in 2008, and was selected as the only suitable solar energy project to satisfy SCPPA's requrest for proposal demands in 2009. SCPPA is comprised of eleven municipal utilities and on irrigation district. The organization adopted a 33% renewables by 2020 goal.

Guangdong Nuclear to get 51% interest in 1 GW pumped storage project in Henan Province

Guangdong Nuclear (GN) and China Hydroelectric Corporation (CHC) have signed a framework agreement which will facilitate the final transfer of a 51% interest in the Wuyue Pumped Storage Power Generation Company to Guangdong Nuclear.

Suntech and Calisolar to build manufacturing facility in Ontario

Suntech Power and Calisolar have signed an agreement under which the two companies extend their strategic partnership for producing crystalline silicon solar panels. Additionally, the two companies are planning to build a new manufacturing facility in Ontario, Canada, for producing solar silicon.

Fred Olsen subsidiary gets contract for offshore installation vessel

Belgian company GeoSea NV, involved in offshore construction and installation services, has ordered a special purpose offshore installation vessel for installing wind turbines, from a subsidiary of Fred Olsen Windcarrier, indirectly in 50% ownership of Bonheur ASA and Ganger Rolf ASA.

Oerlikon to supply 40 MW turnkey production line to China

Oerlikon Solar (Switzerland) received an order for a 40 MW turnkey production line (Micromorph), which the company is to deliver to the customer, Hunan Gongchuang Photovoltaic Science & Technology Company, based in Hengyang city. The production line is to be commissioned by the end of 2011, and will produce about 330,000 solar panels annually.

LDK Solar to supply 84 MW of solar modules to H Power

LDK Solar (China) signed an agreement with H Power, under which the company is to deliver 84 MW of its solar modules to H Power for solar PV projects in the Czech Republic. The delivery of the modules is to take place throughout 2011.

This supply deal further expands LDK Solar's presence in the European solar PV market.

JinkoSolar to supply 54 MW of solar modules to Saint-Gobain

JinkoSolar has signed two deals for the supply of solar modules, totalling in 54 MW, to Saint-Gobain Building Distribution Deutschland. Under the agreement, JinkoSolar is to supply 4 MW of modules during 2010, and another 50 MW during 2011.

The solar modules will be sold by Saint-Gobain in Germany through the company's chain stores. The company is one of Europe's largest building material distributors. The solar modules will most likely be supplied for use in rooftop mounted solar power installations.

UTC wants to acquire remaining share of Clipper Windpower

United Technologies Corporation (UTC) has reached an agreement with Clipper Windpower about the terms for a cash offer UTC will make to acquire the remaining share in Clipper Windpower. At the moment, UTC holds about a 49.5% stake in Clipper.

UK says Severn tidal power scheme expensive, turns to nuclear instead

The UK Department of Climate Change has reached a decision that basically puts the Severn tidal power scheme on ice, and decided to focus attention towards nuclear power instead.

According to a study commissioned by DECC in 2009, preceded by a positive recommendation in 2007 for the Severn tidal power scheme, the projects and costs involved with the development of the Severn area are simply to big, and pose some restrictions which make it a lot harder for development than other forms of "clean" energy, such as nuclear. There are environmental concerns, since much of the area is regarded as internationally important nature conservation sites. Furthermore, a fully developed Severn tidal scheme would still provide only about 5% of the total current electricity generation from indigenous renewable sources.

Terna sells its subsidiary and 150 MW of solar capacity to Terra Firma

Italian grid operator Terna and private equity company Terra Firma signed a sale agreement under which Terna is to turn over 100% of shares in its subsidiary Rete Rinnovabile S.r.l., a company involved in solar energy development, with up to 150 MWp of solar capacity. The value involved in this sale agreement is between EUR 620-670 million.
